Wattenden Primary School Kite Project

A two day project with the whole school in September 2011, Croydon

Wattenden School in Croydon decided to focus the first week back at school in September on flight and kite-making. Following an advance training session Pauline Taylor worked with all the children in the school over two days and every child made a kite.

“I had the pleasure of working very closely with Pauline while she was in our school and was very impressed with how she constantly engaged with the children at their level and, even though it was exciting, got them to produce work of real quality.”

“The children loved the fact that they could take the kites outside and fly straight away. It provoked many discussions as to why kites flew, how they flew and how we could make them fly better. As science co-ordinator at the school I was delighted that this aspect was taken further in many of the classes and developed into full investigations.”

“Overall this series of workshops were a real success in our school. The children got loads from the sessions and the subsequent work. We were left with enough templates to carry on making variations of the kites and Pauline was very inspirational. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this activity to any and all schools. It was a really enjoyable and worthwhile experience for children and staff alike.”
